Where to eat

As for eating out, there are no 100% gluten-free and celiac-friendly restaurants in Latvia. We can only recommend places where you can speak with the staff and ask them to pay extra attention when preparing your food, as well as request detailed information about their cooking environment to avoid cross-contamination.

In Riga, you should definitely visit “Better Bread”, the only 100% gluten-free bakery in Latvia. They offer excellent coffee, handmade bread, and a variety of sweets and pastries. The bakery has several locations in Riga and one in Jurmala.

Restaurant “Da Roberta” – located on Aleksandra Čaka Street 58 in Riga, this restaurant offers freshly made gluten-free pasta and pizza. In addition to regular dishes, they have a separate gluten-free cooking area to prevent cross-contamination. Just let them know about your gluten-free diet in advance, and they will prepare delicious Italian pizzas or pastas for you. For more information, check their Facebook page.

You will find several cafes, restaurants that are very helpful by providing you with some GF meals, but you have to take into consideration the high risk of cross-contamination. You should warn the staff about the seriousity of your GF diet before ordering!

Below you will find places in Riga where some gluten-free confectionery or meals are offered next to gluten meals, so please make sure if they really understand your needs:

  1. Mr.Fox – GF meals marked on the menu. The owner is celiac, understands cross-contamination. Separate toaster. 90% of menu GF.
  2. Restaurants “Terra” – by demand they can cook meals without gluten and lactose. Menu shows GF options.
  3. Entresol – staff very welcoming to allergic people.
  4. PortoFino – this menu includes GF meals and desserts.
  5. Arbooz – GF desserts, macarons

Outside the city of Riga, it may be very problematic to find any cafe or restaurant understanding the meaning of GF diet completely especially the cross-contamination. The most important thing is communication with the staff. Please, let us know on your experience eating GF here in Latvia by sending us a message to: bezglutenadzive@gmail.com
